Zendaya Attended the 2023 NAACP Awards Wearing Vintage Clothing

At the 54th NAACP Image Awards in California last night, Zendaya made her first red-carpet appearance of 2023. She didn’t disappoint when it came to her fashion choices, of course.

The Euphoria star has been working on recreating antique findings with her stylist and “image architect,” Law Roach, for a number of years. She frequently chooses to comb through fashion house archives and locate hidden gems rather than don current season or brand-new couture. The singer-actress wore two equally stunning vintage ensembles at the event yesterday night.

Zendaya initially appeared on the red carpet wearing a spring/summer 2002 Versace couture gown. The strapless black gown had lime green accents all throughout, a cut-away bodice, pronounced hips, and a structured skirt.

She later changed into a different costume for the evening and appeared on stage to give one of the trophies. The second outfit was a modified rendition of a Prada spring/summer 1993 design that had a matching white skirt with a cut-out waistband and a bralet embellished with stars. Zendaya substituted a floor-length skirt for the pants that were originally featured in the look that was seen on the runway. Also, she wore matching white pointed shoes.

The actress thanked Miuccia Prada, the designer who helped her recreate the latter look, in an Instagram post that included some behind-the-scenes images and footage from the event. She added some sparkling Bulgari jewelry as accessories to both outfits.

When it came to beauty, Zendaya styled her chocolate-brown bob in volume-rich, gentle side-swept waves. Her neutral makeup, which featured a bronzed smokey eye and a plain, deeply lined matte lip, appeared to be influenced by the 1990s and 2000s.

The 26-year-old was nominated for two prizes that evening, including Outstanding Actress in a Drama Series and Entertainer of the Year for her performance in Euphoria (both of which ended up going to Angela Bassett). The NAACP Image Awards honor persons of color in the fields of entertainment, the arts, and culture every year.
