In this article, I will be pointing out a few precepts about breastfeeding in the era of COVID-19. If you can breastfeed your baby, it’s important to keep it up. But there are some guidelines to protect your baby during this pandemic.

Research has it that COVID-19 is spread mainly through tiny droplets in the air when a person who’s carrying the virus coughs, sneezes, or talks. Coronavirus hasn’t been found in breast milk, but during breastfeeding, you can still pass it through droplets from your mouth or by touching your little one after coming in contact with an infected surface.

Wear a mask

When you’re breastfeeding your baby, put on a mask even if you don’t have symptoms. Perhaps you’re already used to wearing the nose mask when you go out but in your own house?! Also, wear a mask when you are holding, changing, or talking to your baby.

Wash your hands

It’s very important to wash your hands frequently, especially before and after you pick up your baby and other baby items. You should carefully wash your hands before touching your baby in any case.

Pump Breast Milk

You can also pump your breast milk into a bottle or container, and have your partner or family member feed your baby. make sure the bottle or container is completely sterile. Also, disinfect the breast milk parts carefully with boiled water.
