Easy Method: How to register your Sim Card with a Ghana Card

The Ministry of Communications and Digitalization (MoCD) has urged all Ghanaians from October 1, 2021, to re-register and link their Sim Card with the Ghana Card. According to Ursula Owusu Ekufful ( Minister of communications and digitalization), this nationwide exercise is to put an end to mobile money fraud.

Speaking at a press conference Ursula Owusu Stated that, this nationwide registration will last for a period of six (6) months which means any unregistered sim card will not be active after 1 April 1, 2022.

“Barring any unforeseen eventualities, SIM Registration will begin on 1st October 2021 for a six (6) month period and end on 31st March 2022. Any sim which is not registered at the end of this exercise will be blocked,” she stated.

The Minister added that, apart from existing subscribers registering or linking their Sim Cards to the Ghana Card, a sim application App will also be launched to speed up the process.

The minimum age for SIM registration has been set at 15 years, taking into consideration the increased use of communications services since the onset of the COVID 19 pandemic and to facilitate E-education,Ursula added.

Explaining further, Ursula said only the National Identity Card (Ghana Card) shall be used for the registration of SIM cards of citizens, foreign residents, and foreigners staying in Ghana for more than 90 days. Ghanaians can register a total number of 10 SIM cards across all networks whiles, foreigners are limited to only 3 SIM cards across all networks in the country.

STAGE 1

1. On your mobile device dial *404#

2. Enter your Ghana Card Pin (without the hyphens)

3. Confirm your Ghana Card Pin

4. Enter your Surname

5. Enter your First name(s)

6. Enter your Date of Birth (DDMMYY)

7. Select Sex (Male or Female)

8. Confirm details

9. Submit details provided after confirmation

If the process is successful, you will get a confirmation message with a unique code.

If the process is unsuccessful due to wrong details, you have 3 attempts to answer security questions.

If the process is unsuccessful due to failure at the National Identification Authority (NIA), you will be informed to contact the NIA.

STAGE 2

Visit your service provider (agent-customer Care) to complete the final stage of the registration process.

NOTE: Registration ends before April 1 2022.
