Facebook changes it’s name to meta

Facebook has changed its name to Meta in a major rebrand.

Earlier this month it was announced that Facebook was planning on changing its name. Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced Thursday at the company’s Connect event that the company’s new name will be Meta. The change does not apply to its individual platforms, such as Facebook, Instagram, and Whatsapp, only the parent company that owns them.

According to Mark Zukerberg, Meta’s focus will be to bring the metaverse to life and help people connect, find communities, and also grow business grow businesses. The metaverse will feel like a hybrid of today’s online social experiences projected into the physical world. It will let you share immersive experiences with other people even when you can’t be together — and do things together you couldn’t do in the physical world.

Zuckerberg said. “Together, we can finally put people at the center of our technology. And together, we can unlock a massively bigger creator economy.”

To reflect who we are and what we hope to build,” he added. He said the name Facebook doesn’t fully encompass everything the company does now and is still closely linked to one product. “But over time, I hope we are seen as a metaverse company.

About the new Meta

About the new Meta

Meta builds technologies that help people connect, find communities, and grow businesses. When Facebook launched in 2004, it changed the way people connect. Apps like Messenger, Instagram, and WhatsApp further empowered billions around the world. Now, Meta is moving beyond 2D screens toward immersive experiences like augmented and virtual reality to help build the next evolution in social technology.

Zuckerberg owns the Twitter handle @meta (whose tweets are protected as of this writing) and meta.com, which now redirects to a welcome page on Facebook that outlines the changes.
